Hi,I did the following:
How do you and your roommate deal with food/common household supplies? Are foods like cereal and foods like shortening or flour different? Do you share? How is it paid for?
What about cleaning supplies? Are mops different from windex? Do you share? How is it paid for?
Please help me out here?

With common supplies me and my roommate would go the store together and shop for hers-mine-and ours. We would get in line when we were done and put the "ours" up first then pay half each. Then our own separately.

All checkouts have the option to do half and half. It may be a few cents different but at least you will not be waiting on when ever that person feels like paying you back.

Of course there is a difference if you are not sharing and they use your items. Then I would make them pay for the same item the next time you go shopping.

Roomies should make shopping list together. The cost of household supplies and general pantry items should be split among the roommates. That would include items like dish soap, paper towels, cleaning supplies as well as salt, pepper, margarine, etc. Only special items for the use of one of the roommates only (toiletries, special foods not shared, etc.) should be paid for by that individual.

If one of the roommates has a boyfriend/child or friend who stays over, that person should pay for a larger portion of the grocery expense or replenish what their guests usesd.

We're pretty whatever in our house and in general we buy our own food, if someone wants to buy something with someone else than they talk about it and it happens. I eat out more than my roommates and so buy less food. A couple of my roommates buy and eat a lot more food than I do. So in our situation, we wouldn't share in paying for it, though it's fine if a roommate grabs something from another roommate -and just get them back later with paying for a meal, giving a couple beers or dollars or whatever.

Cleaning supplies we share turns buying it. Toilet paper, cleaner, paper towels, etc - stuff that is totally shared, its not always easy to split the cost every time we buy something like that, and sometimes a roommate may be straight up low on cash - so one will buy it and someone else will buy it the next time.

Conflict between roommates is unavoidable, but I think it should be prevented at all costs. It's great to live with people you can be nice to and who are nice to you, who like and respect each other and look out for each other too. If that means letting it slide when a roommate eats my icecream, and just asking them to spot me for Wendys later, than it's worth it.

Really its something you should discuss with your roommate and come to a decision you both agree. It's not a big deal, the more important thing is that you are both responsible for yourselves, and also to each other. It''s very advantageous to live with people you like living with. Go shopping together at Cosco or Target or something for stuff you want to share - cleaning supplies, mutual furniture/appliances, food basics you are willing to share on (I think popcorn, that kind of stuff); split the cost. For food and personal items, pay for yourself. If a roommate shows interest in food you have, strike a deal - ask them for some food of theirs in return in the future, or just give it and hope they will be friendlyin the same way.

When I had one, we had a jar to put all receipts in, with our name on it, split all supplies. Figured it out by the month, or more often if one of us needed our share back and had spent more than the other for some reason.

We were friends, and didn't cheat each other, and didn't nickle and dime things to death.

U share the grocery bill half and half, any extras like beer and stuff they should buy, or u can do the i buy what i want to eat and u buy what u want to eat and leave each others food alone... cleaning supplies should be split right down the middle, since u both clean with the products...

I've lived with 3 room mates in the past and with all of them, it was pretty much the same. I would buy my own food and we would share things such as the cleaning supplies (windex) and mops, brooms, etc.
