Hi,I did the following:
How many cloth diapers do I need to have?I have decided to finally switch to cloth diapers all the way. My son in 13 months, I already have 3 cloth diapers (the all in one kind). I was wondering how many more should I get to be able to completely stop using disposables.

I am not planning on doing laundry every day!! So If I wanna wash them 2 a week, how many diapers do I need? And what other accesories are useful? Thanks a lot!

Hmm you'd need a lot of the AIOs if you want ot do it that way. depending on how many your baby uses a day say 6-8 you'd at least 18-24 more wth doing laundry twice a week. however, Aios are the most expensive but you can try prefold or flats with covers/wraps

Elizabeth- Lots of people don't have the option to use a diaper service for laundering

Two times a week? That's going to be a stinky and stained mess! I would say changing him what...seven times a day maybe? Multiple that seven by four days. That's 28 diapers. My disposables are 20 a piece. That equals really, really expensive!!

I personally use a cloth diaper service who provides and launders the diapers for me for less than twenty dollars a week.

You can't wash them only twice a week, that would make it very hard to clean them as they will be sitting around for awhile.

I wash mine every other day and I have 30 of them (My daughter is 3 months old and uses about 12 a day) So I wash 24 of them at a time and have 6 extra.

But since your son is older and I'm sure uses less diapers, then make sure you have 2.5 days worth of diapers, so if he uses 6 diapers a day, you will need 15 diapers, if he uses 8 diapers a day, you will need 20 diapers.

I would advise you that if you want to use cloth diapers you are going to have to clean them every other day, if you don't want to be doing that then I would not use cloth diapers all the time.

I have a bumGenius diaper sprayer to spray off dirty diapers (It attaches right by the toliet)
I recommend getting Allen's Naturally Liquid Laundry Detergent as it is rated as one of the best detergents for cloth diapers.
If you use cloth wipes too then I would recommned getting bumGenius Bottom Cleaner (It helps clean off babies bottom when they have a dirty diaper).
If you do opt to go with cloth wipes then i recommned Cotton Babies Flannel Wipes.

I also have a Bambino Mio Nappy Bucket and Lid to hold the diapers in until I wash them.
And i have a Bambino Mio Nappy Bag to put the diapers in when we aren't at home.

Just buy them one or two at a time until you are comfortable with the number you have- I wash daily and find that 18 is survivable, but I do wash DAILY!

If you want to only wash twice a week, I would give a TENTATIVE suggestion of about 36 diapers, that gives you a guaranteed two full days of diapers with a safety margin of 12 for wash day. I always recommend 12 diapers a day with 12 in reserve for wash day. This is mainly because if your child gets sick you may very well go through a MINIMUM of twelve a day!

Given your LO is 13 months, a diaper sprayer would be a good investment for cleaning poo off them, and get a FIRMLY lidded diaper pail- because after two days in the pail they STINK! Personally I find that after 24 hours the smell and feel of the diaper at the bottom of the pail is bordering on unbearable- I'm not looking forward to the upcoming summer heat (I'm in Australia- our seasons are reversed to the Northern half of the world!)
You don't really NEED much for doing cloth, even with the optional accessories it still is a very short list- diapers, diaper pail, diaper sprayer, wetbag or two and a fragrance and softener free detergent for washing!
