Hi,I did the following:
Is it safe to use johnson's baby wash on a 13 wk old kitten?I recently got a kitten from the local humane shelter. And she smells so bad and she has a few matted patches of fur. She jus had her surgery to be fixed on the 29th jan. I am wondering if i could use johnson's baby wash since it is good for baby's. Also the vet said that her stitches are on the inside and will dissolve themselves. But I still don't want to use anything on her that might be harmful to her surgery spot. Any advice on something else i would appreciate to. Thanks

No, its just for babys, buy kitten shampoo

Just ask your vet

No, it will dry the skin. You should only use shampoos made for kittens. Ask your Vet if unsure. Enjoy your new friend.

They do make regular kitten shampoo, but I have used a mild baby shampoo on kittens. You just want to make sure you rinse and dry her very well. Stay away from flea or tick products with a young kitten.Take a warm soft wash cloth to her face so you don't get shampoo in her eyes. You can always call your vet and ask what they recommend. Even though the stitches are on the inside, be careful. She shouldn't be playing and bouncing around until she is 10 days at least past her surgery date.

I have always just used baby shampoo when I bathe my cats and dog (Chihuahua). I have asked several vets and they all said it was okay, was mild enough to not dry the skin and since it is tearless, will not burn the eyes.

If all her stitches are on the inside, you should be okay to bathe her. Just have a nice warm towel ready to snuggle and dry her. And keep her in a warm room until she is very dry so not to get chilled.

A year ago I had tiny orphaned kittens (stray momma had been killed by a car and good samaritan rescued and brought to me). They were about 10 -12 days old. They were dirty and flea infested. And of course they got diarrhea for the first week from being changed to kitten replacement milk. I bathed those little sweeties every 3 days for a month to battle the fleas keep their little bottoms from becoming sore.

What I did for them was first, wet a old soft washcloth and wash their face, ears and back of their head. Then I put very warm water in a dishpan with just a drop or two of the shampoo and then lowered them into the water holding their heads up. Then I rinsed them well under running water, again keeping the face and head up. I found long ago the kitty won't fight as hard if you don't run water over their head.

Many people suggest the Dawn dish detergent. If you are not washing grease or oil off kitty why use something so harsh. I know how bad any dish detergent strips the natural oils off my hands from washing dishes. It would have to do the same to the kitten's skin.

Purrs to you and kitten.
