Hi,I did the following:
How long do massage oils last?I bought some baby oils for my son and after about 3/4 months they started to smell strange. Do massage oils 'go off' or not?

Yes. Massage oils can go bad or become rancid.
The length of time that it takes is different with the type of oil.
You may want to consider purchasing your massage oils from a cosmetic supplier - there are tons of them on the net. They usually add one or more preservatives that can extend the shelf life to about a year or so. It just depends. I listed a couple below - HTH

Jojoba oil is GREAT for massage oil. It's also used in aromatherapy as it has a longer shelf life than baby oil or other oils when making oil blends. I use it frequently when making my own blends as it lasts 10x longer and doesn't seem to go bad. Also, when making your massage oil, try to not make too much if you continue to use baby oil. As you've found out, it can go bad. Jojoba oil can usually be found where essential oils are sold, or a metaphysical shop (Wiccan).

Yes massage oils can off due to oxidization, whereby they react with the air.
This can depend on the type of oil. For example as jojoba oil is a liquid wax rather than an oil, it should not go rancid as quickly as a nut oil.
Also how you store your oils will have an effect. Keep them in a cool dark place and preferably store in an airtight glass container. If buying large amounts you may like to decant the oil into a smaller container as you use it - the more air in the bottle, the faster oxidization will occur.
A natural antioxident often used in massage oils to slow rancidity is rosemary leaf extract. This may be preferable to synthetic preservatives added to some commercial oil blends.
