Hi,I did the following:
what do you think about using paper/plastic plates for the cake? The location or catering does not provide china and she suggested using paper or plastic. I think it is tacky, but my FH thinks it is fine since our reception is a garden setting.

you could find nice plastic plates. like the clear style? paper just seems tacky. :(

You can purchase some very pretty, yet inexpensive plastic or paper plates since the reception is a garden setting. Not tacky, responsible.

I think that's fine. No one really expects china to eat cake off...do they?

I think it's a good idea rather than china plates 'cause then after your guests finishes his/her cake they can just recycle it, less garbage.

Why not rent plates? If you think it's tacky then don't do it. There are lots of party rental places, just Google some and see what the costs are.

Well that's okay.
But there are some plastic plates that are not tacky looking. So just try and look for those, they're just as cheap!

Aimee answered exactly how I would have. Clear or colored plastic is more sophisticated.

The clear plastic plates look like glass. Its perfectly fine and looks good.

I prefer real plates. Plates can be rented from another catering company. That's so surprising that your catering company does not provide that!
But if real plates are positively not possible for you, then the best runner up would be those hard, sturdy, clear plastic kind. They look the most like glass.
What do you think? Answer below!
