Hi,I did the following:
How to polish rocks at home, with household supplies?I'm at home, and found some very nice rocks to polish. I do not have sand paper, and I just have basic house hold supplies. What could I use to polish the rocks? Also, i don't have a rock tumbler.

House hold goods are not abrasive enough to polish a stone unless its really soft like amber (which isn't really a rock at all)
Sand paper is essential for this process, and not just any sandpaper, corundum (sapphire) wet/dry sandpaper, usually found in Automotive stores. and most times its black paper. You will need 100, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 grit at the minimum. and a great deal of elbow grease and time with a semi soft pad underneath (phone book, stack of magazines). You will start out with 100 grit and a few drips of water on the paper and push the stone down on the paper, moving your stone in a circular motion continue for a while this will remove some of the roughness. once most of the roughness has gone clean the rock to remove any residual grit from the 100 paper, then you can move on to the 400 again with water and circular motions, continue successively until you have reached the 1500. Be sure to clean the stone between grits. It sucks to have put all the work in just to have a grain of 100 grit grind scratches in to your polished stone.
You can finish your polish with Tin Oxide or Cerium oxide
