Hi,I did the following:
Cleaning tools that are rusted shut?I have some tools that are rusted shut. I have tried to open them with steel wool, a wire brush and WD40 and it has not worked.

What can I use to clean the rust from the tools to make them work?

I have a hand drill, needle nose pliers, and a pair is grass seres that are frozen shut with rust.
They would work if I could get the rust out of them and get then moving.

There's a product you can purchase at any Auto Zone called Evapo Rust. Fill a plastic bucket up with it and soak your tools in it for about 30 minutes if it's a medium amount of rust. (Must be a plastic bucket so the chemical won't react with a metal bucket." This product is safe on plastic and wood, but, takes the rust right off. Then you would rinse your tools well and use a soft rag to wipe off any lingering rust. If still not to your likeing, soak a bit more. But, this product will take the rust off of your tools. Pour the Evap Rust into a jug or bottle and reuse over and over. Even when it's black and nasty looking, you can still use it until you see it's no longer taking off the rust. It's the best product you will find where you won't be scouring and scrubbing it off with steel wool or sand paper. Just keep sealed well so you can reuse over and over. Good luck!

Try hydrogen peroxide, this will usually break the rust enough so that you can open the tool. Then use a fine sand paper to remove remaining rust, afterward, oil the tool with WD 40.

try soaking them in cola. The acid eats the rust. Goodness knows what it does to your insides if you drink it!
