The best cleaning tools really depend on the job. But, as a rule of thumb, I'd recommend the following:

- Baking soda. Buy a little box of Arm and Hammer, pop the opening, and put it in the fridge. I guarantee it'll keep your fridge smelling great.

- Oxi Clean is a must for laundry. A scoop of that (or a little more), in addition to hot water and an extra rinse, has defeated every stain I've ever thrown at it. A tube of Shout! (with the scrub brush on top) is doubly effective.

- Renuzit air fresheners are wonderful. Their Super Odor Killer beats any bad smell, and you can adjust the strength of the air freshener easily.

- Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser magically cleans any white surface - even the shower.

- Buy an after-shower spray. Scrubbing Bubbles makes a Daily Shower spray. Use it after every shower, and you'll never have to scrub the tub again.

- Buy a bottle cleaner brush. You'll need it for any long glasses, thermoses, odd shaped pots, and so forth. It's a big time saver.

- Buy a lint brush. It's different from a lint roller - it usually has two sides, and has red fabric. These are a must for furniture cleaning, especially furniture with "grain".

- A simple spray bottle is a must have. As long as you get to stains quickly with a sponge and a spray bottle, you can easily scrub out most stains without harsh chemicals and abrasives.

- Rubbing alcohol is a must. Sometimes it's the best and easiest cure for mixing with water for a simple cleaning solution, or for things like pouring it down the drain to get rid of funky smells.

- Speaking of funky smells, buying bleach tablets to drop in your toilet tank will do a lot of toilet cleaning for you.

- Bleach wipes are the quickest, cleanest way to clean up simple spills and stains.
