Hi,I did the following:
do you wear ankle braces in practice or in games or both .?i play basketball and i see many athletes wear ankle braces and i heard ankle braces support your ankles but also weaken them . but it decreases the chances of having a bad sprain compared to not having one on. i sprained ankle does it make it for me to wear them. and do you wear them in practice or games . or either in both . does it also stop ankles from hurting ?

i play tennis and soccer
i dont like to wear them during games though
i cant run correctly with them and i screw up too much with them on
it helps the pain ALOT!!!

I think that you should ask your doctor and your coach. You will have to live with the damage done to your ankles for the rest of your life. If your goal is to go professional, that's even more of a reason to know who to ask and what to do to ameliorate any further damage.

If you've sprained your ankle before you should wear a brace in games since games are a lot less controlled than practice. As for practice, that's up to you, if you feel really comfortable and are worried about weakening the ankle you can try without them, but I'd say wear the brace for practices as well and then start doing physical therapy/strengthening excercises to make up for it everytime you wear the brace.

if you haven't had any problems then don't wear them yet. if you have hurt them then it is going to be much easier for it to happen again. Either way if you're worried then you should be doing ankle injury prevention exercises and resistance training. Once you do hurt your ankle then along with extra exercises you should be wearing support braces as much as possible. In warmups one time I decided I'd be fine, then snapped my ankle because it was so weak from hurting it all the time. Eventually I had surgery to remove some of the stretched out tendons that had become so weak. The braces can be annoying but not nearly as annoying as a surgery and rehab can be. good luck.
