Hi,I did the following:
How to treat a 5 month old's cough and cold?My 5mth old DS has a cold -coughing, sneezing, runny nose. We're snowed in so can't get to Dr. Are there any home remedies to treat this, or over the counter medicines I can give him? I've tried Calpol but it doesn't seem to do any good. Also his cough keeps waking him up at night, what can I do to help this?

I suggest a vaporizer with eucalyptus oil ( or a standing in the bathroom with hot water running for the steam) and vicks baby calm always works for my little man if your baby has a fever try a little panadol or neurophen don't give honey it can cause botulism

With a 5 month old there really isn't much you can do. Even as adults all you can do with a cold is treat the symptoms. Since your son is 5 months old you can treat his cold and congestion with Baby Vick Vaporub. Rub some on the bottoms of his feet and then cover them with socks. This will help a lot. I know it sounds weird but it always has worked for me and my children.
For congestion you really can only use saline drops (little noses is a good brand) and a nasal aspirator (that little bulb thing to suck out his snot). Drip a drop of the saline into his nose to loosen up the snot and then suction his nose out.
He'll get over the cold in time, you can't speed it up, but those methods should alleviate his symptoms.
Hang in there. Colds shouldn't last too long.

I use tylenol infant drops nd my daughter seems to do just fine with it. If her cold doesnt clear up with in a week, I make a docs app. Also baby vics would help

Saline nose drops - you can create them at home - boil water add 1 tsp to every 1/2 gallon of water.
Insert and flush out the nostrils.
Also, steamy shower, cool mist humidifier in the room with him.
Elevate the head of his bed - and make sure he sleeps at least at a 20 degree angle - by placing phone books under the edge of the crib mattress.
Also, vicks vapor rub to chest if you have any.
Honey can be used BUT ITS ONLY AFTER 1 YEAR OF AGE
Any fever can be treated with tyelnol or motrin and you can alternate using each - tyelnol is every 4 hours and motrin is every 6
